Hello and welcome to Year 1. We have four fun themed classes in Year 1 (2019-2020).

Holden's Heroes are led by Mr. Holden, who is also the phase leader and responsible for the curriculum in both Year 1&2. Look out for your favourite superhero in this class.

Mrs. A's Aliens are led by Mrs. Alshamery and they have great fun travelling around in outer space.

Ms. V's Bees are led by Ms. Veronicah who love to buzz around all day.

The Flintstones are led by Ms. Flynn who share their enthusiasm by shouting out 'Yabba Dabba Doo'.

We also have four dedicated teaching assistants in Year 1, who support and assist our children in their learning. Ms. Darko, Ms. Nazneen, Ms. Iolinda and Ms. Yvonne. They all encourage and help the children to achieve to the best of their ability every day.

Year 1 encompasses an exciting transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1 and the National Curriculum. We aim to make this move as smooth as possible encouraging learning through play and as we move through the year our curriculum gradually becomes a little more structured as the children gain in maturity and experience.

We also undertake a thematic, play based approach to learning which enriches and enhances the child's experience as a whole. It encourages the child to make links to the outside world and to then make connections between different areas of their lives.

During the academic year, we have many inspiration days and field trips. These may include, but are not limited to, mermaids and pirate's inspiration day, World Book Day, beach and park trips, garden centre visits, and even spending time in a toy shop!

We recognise that it is very important for parents to be actively involved in their child's school life. Supporting a child's learning at home can be facilitated through our 'Pick and Mix' homework along with numeracy, reading and ICT activities. We believe in making learning fun and encourage you to do this with your child too!
