Part of our School Mission is to develop the young people in our care to be future leaders. Students have many opportunities for leadership, including:
- Head Student
- Student Councillor
- Prefect
- Sixth Form committee member
- Sports Captain
- House Captain
- Literacy Leaders
- Academic mentors
- Club leader
Through these roles students make an important contribution to both how the school runs and develops.
Head Students are chosen by staff and students from amongst the Sixth Form students. They lead the Student Council, chair various Sixth Form committees, act as ambassadors for the school at school functions, meet regularly with the Head of Sixth Form and Headteacher to discuss student matters and arrange key Sixth Form events, such as Graduation.
Student Councillors are elected by each Tutor Group and the Student Council operates according to the Student Council Terms of Reference. The Student Council meets regularly to coordinate opportunities for students to raise money for charities and the Student Fund, ensure that the Student Fund is spent in ways that benefit the majority of the student body. They also act as advocates on issues of student concern, communicate said issues to school leadership and work with school leadership to ensure issues are addressed in a mutually satisfactory manner. The Student Council provides a forum for discussion where students can share ideas and concerns.
Year 11 students can apply to be Prefects. Prefects play an important role in ensuring the well-being of all students during break times and help with the running of key school events, like Parent Student Teacher evenings.
Each year the Sixth Form student body decides on key focus committees with the Sixth Form Leadership team. Committees include Sixth Form Events Committee, Year Book Committee Environmental Awareness Committee.
Each year group has a boy and girl Sports Captain. These are nominated by students and, based on their application, chosen by the PE Faculty. Sports Captains help with the organisation of School Teams for fixtures.
Each House elects up to 6 House Captains, two from each Key Stage, a boy and a girl. The House Captains have an important role to play in leading House assemblies, organising House competitions and House sports teams and running House events, like Sports Day.
Students from Year 9 and above can apply to the Head of English to be Literacy Leaders. Literacy leaders support younger students in developing reading skills.
Sixth Form students can apply to be Academic Mentors. As Academic Mentors they support younger students both in class and with homework.
Sixth Form students can submit a proposal to the Head of Sixth Form and Club Coordinator to run student clubs during extra-curricular activities.
